Between the Covers Discussing Lisa See's "The Island of Sea Women" August 25

We'll be discussing Lisa See's book at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, in the Library.  Social distancing will be practiced and masks are not required but appreciated.  This book discussion was scheduled for June 30th but had to be cancelled.

"Island of Sea Women" was released in 2019 and revolves around a collective of female divers from the Korean island of JeJu.  This matrifocal culture based on an ancient tradition called the haenyeo centers on real women providing for their families by diving for seafood they can sell.

The story tells of Mi-Ja abnd Young-sook, best friends from different backgrounds over the period of 80 years beginning in the 1930's through the era of wet suits for women divers.  Like other books by See this book focuses on female friendship and the bonds that tie them together and shape their lives.
