Library History
The Hartley Public Library was formally opened on Friday, March 27, 1942, in the upstairs room in the Legion Hall.
On November 12, 1943, the Board of Trustees voted to move to a first floor room in the Legion Hall, and on September 16, 1947, they voted to rent the old post office building on the corner because more space was needed.
In July, 1963, the City Council purchased the former "Cove" building for the library and school children helped move on November 4, 1963.
On December 4, 2000, the Council was presented with plans to add on to the present building.
In December 2001, the library reopened at its present location at 91 1st Street SE.
