Between the Book Club members will be discussing this month’s selection April 17 at 7:00 p.m. when they meet in the front of Hartley Public Library. Garth Stein’s third book, “The Art of Racing in the Rain” is narrated by Enzo, a lab terrier mix, who lives with Denny, an aspiring race car driver, Eve, Denny’s wife, and Zoe, their daughter. Enzo has gained insight into the human condition through watching television and listening to Denny, and sees that life, like racing, isn’t simply about going fast. Following Eve’s death Zoe’s grandparents sue for permanent custody. Their case is weak until Denny is accused of rape. Through it all Enzo maintains his loyalty to the family and his dream of Denny as a racing champion with Zoe at his side. Join us for an uplifting story of love, loyalty, and family through the eyes of a philosophic canine.
