We love kids!

We love planning programs that appeal to kids to get them excited about reading.  Here are just a few:

1. After School Programs - two times a month we offer an after school program for PreK through 4th grade. Heather meets the children at school and escorts to them the library where they enjoy a snack, read stories, play games and make a take-home craft! The second program of the month is an after-school movie with popcorn. These programs are free but pre-registration is required.  Watch your child's backpack for fliers announcing when their next after school program will be.

2. Class visits - 1st and 2nd graders visit every couple of weeks with their classes to listen to a story and check out books.

3. Outreach Readings - Heather makes trips a couple of times each month to the preschool 3 and 4-year olds located at HUMC, the Hartley Daycare, Hartley Headstart, and the Early Childhood classroom at HMS.  She brings a variety of books, rhymes, songs and fingerplays to share.

4. Children's Book Month (November) and National Library Week (April) are times we celebrate our library by inviting all of the Elementary classes to come down and look at some of our new releases in the children's section, read some stories, and in other ways enjoy the library.

5. Special programming - Sometimes we have challenges happening at the library like our Halloween I-Spy game which are meant to help your children develop a familiarity with the library.

6.  Middle School and Teens  - Middle School aged children  and teens are invited to take part in this year's Amimee Club, movie nights (13 and older), and game day.   Call the library for more information.

 7. Summer Library Program - this six-week program takes place every summer and includes a variety of programs, story hours, and reading challenges.
