Hartley Public Library will be presenting "Where the Journey Ends: O'Brien County Cemeteries" at 2 p.m. July 19
If you’re interested in O’Brien County’s fascinating people and landscapes you’ll want to find out more about the county’s historical cemetery sites at an upcoming program at Hartley Public Library.
Kiana Johnson, Executive Director of O’Brien County Economic Development and Charlene Elyea, Naturalist with O’Brien County Conservation will be presenting a program at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the Hartley Public Library.
There are 23 church, town, and pioneer cemeteries in O’Brien County. We’ll be taking a sit-down tour of some of them as well as learning about the people whose graves reside there, the actual gravestones and what the markings mean, and the history of some of the cemeteries themselves.
“Where the Journey Ends: O’Brien County Cemetery Tour” books with accompanying cd’s will be available for sale for $10 if you wish to take additional information home with you to share and study. And participants will be able to make special arrangements to visit the Hartley Cemetery chapel that day following the program.
For more information you can call the library at 928-2080. This program is free and open to the the public. Light refreshments will be served.
